Our restaurant by the sea, is an original bank building from 1912 – we have layered it with paint colours reflecting the ocean & the federation period.
All decor, furniture included is bespoke – created from recycled timber & steel – re used school stairwells, wine barrels from the Peninsula vineyards, drift wood, scallop shells, cuttlefish, wharf pillars from the surrounding beaches all combine to reflect a singular vision of its environment & facade dovetailing with the bank teller timber bar, original bank vault come cellar & brick safe flooring that hark back to inception. Counting House the name derives from the Rhyme ‘sing a song a sixpence’...The King is in his Counting House counting out his money...
The Rhyme theme runs throughout the venue – the Blackbird is the motif, there is a Parlour room & so forth.
Our menu is French inspired in preparation & execution without the gallic flair or staples – simply the technique which guides all cuisines. Gavin Ong the Chef hails from Quo Vadis in London under Curtis Stone at Marco Pierre White’s restaurant & in Melbourne under Phillip Mouchel at his eponomys restaurant by the Yarra. The restaurant overlooks the Mornington Park, Schnapper point beach & marina. We have 3 dining rooms inside & al fresco dining on our terrace & enclosed footpath area. All staffed by locals and headed by restaurant manager Brendan Hayes whose experience is international & Victorian.
Quite simply we want to create a regional restaurant that becomes a destination point for people to explore the untapped beauty & accessibility of Mornington – the City of the Mornington Peninsula. |
